COLLEGE COUNSELOR AND ESSAY SPECIALIST

I find it deeply fulfilling to help students explore and capitalize on their strengths and interests as they navigate the college application process, from building their college list to coaching their Common App and college essays. I focus on each student’s unique background and circumstances to help them craft a compelling narrative through each component of their applications.

I’ve had a passion for both personal and academic essay writing since I was young. This focus fully developed in law school where I won the Stanley I. and Hope S. Adelstein Environmental Law Award for my Note on FDA food labeling policies, served as a Legal Writing Fellow for first year law students, and won the Excellence for the Future Award for First Amendment Law. In fact, assisting students with their Common App and college essays was the reason I began practicing college admissions counseling.

I have relaxed, nuanced conversations with students that elicit important elements about their lived experiences. Building this rapport with students enables me to understand their values, personal evolution, and individuality so that when they write, I ensure their authentic voice tells their story and message. My students share small details with me that they might have dismissed as inconsequential, but I find including them makes their essays more complex and memorable. I use this successful approach with my private clients and the seniors at Fuchs Mizrachi High School, where each fall I counsel them through writing their Common App and college essays.

Each student’s distinct intentions and academic objectives keep me engaged and driven to accommodate their needs. I treat students like young adults fully capable of making what is likely their first major life decision, empowering and motivating them in their pursuit of post-secondary opportunities. Yet I understand that navigating higher education can be an exploratory journey—it certainly was for me.

I began college as a journalism major at Ohio University but ultimately earned my bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA. I hold a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and am licensed to practice in Ohio. Additionally, I earned a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA Extension.

Social justice has often inspired my endeavors so I volunteer with College Now—Greater Cleveland to mentor first-generation college students.

I live in Cleveland, Ohio with my husband and three children.
